The Church of The Good Shepherd understands the good that comes from electronic communications and social networking. At the same time we recognise the tremendous potential for hurt and misunderstanding that go with these mediums and the damage to the reputation of Christ, His worldwide Church and our immediate Church community. We trust that by following this policy and common sense, you are able to both reap the rewards of this Facebook group and avoid the potential pitfalls.
The Apostle Paul instructs that “‘I have the right to do anything,’ you say but not everything is beneficial. ‘I have the right to do anything’ but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others”. With the principles of 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 in mind, the use of this Facebook group falls under the following policy.
Encouragement: We seek to encourage one another in this public forum. We challenge one another with respect and love outside of this forum within a private relationship.
Integrity: Our posts are consistent with the teaching of scripture and the values of the Church of The Good Shepherd. We do not say anything online that we would not say in-person.
Respect: We recognise that posts are public (or easily made public), we are respectful to each other, the Church, our leaders, Church employees, volunteers and members.
Expression: We recognise that written words do not have the “non-verbal” channels of face-to-face communication. We will re-read everything prior to posting to see if there is any possibility of misunderstanding.
Confidences: We are extra careful that our posts do not inadvertently share confidential information.
Money: We recognise that appeals for sponsorship, or adverts for services, products, sales or business’ are not suitable for the Church of The Good Shepherd notice board. We understand that any posts involving the exchange of moneys which is not directly the Church of The Good Shepherd business will be removed by the administrators.
Media: We only post photographs/videos that are suitable for a church environment, that will not offend any member of this group, or anyone in the picture/video will mind being made public.
Copyright: We do not post anything that infringes copyright, UK law, or the law of the country of origin.
Entries that in the opinion of the group administrators fall outside of this policy will be removed. The PCC administrators reserve the right to remove any post at any time for any reason. If you feel a post has been removed incorrectly, please escalate to the PCC Communication Coordinator [email protected] .
